Iran denies Pasdar is killed in Yemen war

September 3, 2021

The Foreign Ministry has denied that a Pasdar officer was killed in Yemen, announcing firmly that Iran has no military troops or advisers stationed in Yemen.

The Foreign Ministry made the announcement August 21 after an official of the ousted government of President Mansur Hadi issued a statement saying an Iranian military expert, whom he did not name, and nine other people had been killed in a Saudi airstrike in central Yemen the previous day.  Iran accused Hadi’s government of lying and said there were no Iranians serving in Yemen.

However, almost two months earlier, on June 29, Rabea Al-Qorashi, the spokesman for the rebel Houthi Sixth Military Region announced that two Iranian Pasdaran, Idris Asghar and Rahua Bahram, had been killed fighting with the Houthis in Yemen.  He identified the men as “Iranian military experts” from the Pasdaran’s Qods Force.

The Islamic Republic has not denied that statement from its Houthi allies.
