Iran claims it can prove US lies about terrorism

that prove conclusively that the United States is conducting terrorist actions throughout the world.

Khamenehi announced that Iran would release these documents publicly so that the entire world could see how treacherous the Americans really are.

A week has now passed since Khamenehi announced the documents.  But none of them has yet been published.

Last Friday, on the anniversary of the 1979 seizure of the US embassy, Saeed Jalili, the secretary of the Supreme National Security Council, spoke at the embassy site with two thick loose-leaf binders displayed beside him, which he said contained the 100 incriminating documents.  But he did not read from any of them.

If the regime does not release the documents, it could prove to be  a major embarrassment since it is making such a major point of the documents.  But it would be nothing new for the regime to say it holds something definitive, promise to present them to the public, and then do nothing.

Back on January 15, Gen. Ali Fadavi, chief of the Pasdar maritime forces, announced that his men had shot down two US Navy drones over the Persian Gulf.  “These aircraft are now in our possession,” he said. “We will definitely display them at an appropriate time.”  Ten months have since passed and no such drones have been put on display.  In fact, talk about them has ceased.

As far back as 1987, Iran announced it had definitive proof that Iraq had shot down a jet carrying the Algerian foreign minister near where Iran, Iraq and Turkey join.  Many people accused Iran of shooting down the plane by mistake, thinking it was Iraqi.  But Iran said it had proof of Iraqi malfeasance and would shortly release the proof.  Almost a quarter century has passed and no evidence has ever been released.

Such announcements of proof-soon-to-come are constantly made by Iranian officials and just as quickly forgotten.  The announcements usually say the proof will be released “soon” or “when appropriate.”  There is never any specific date given.

Khamenehi said last Wednesday, “We have undeniable documents that show America is behind the curtain of terror in Iran and the region.  By presenting those 100 documents, we will disgrace American in the world.”

He did not give a specific date for the release of the documents.

Khamenehi suggested that the announcement of the documents was a response to the American charge that Iran plotted to kill the Saudi ambassador to the United States in Washington.

After mentioning the “absurd” plot charge, Khamenehi said, “America tried to exert pressure on Iran and rescue itself from the Occupy Wall Street movement and its problems by this absurd terrorist scenario.  They want to accuse the most virtuous warriors and fighters in Iran of terrorism.

“The course of events has changed in the world and, by the grace of God, the fight for virtue, with the pioneering of Iran, has started against the pharaoh of hegemony and will continue to its final collapse,” Khamenehi said in his speech.

The regime has launched an all-out campaign to convince the world—not just the Iranian people—of American skullduggery.

For example, last Friday the English language service of the Fars news agency carried a total of 19 news stories.  Seven of those stories, or more than one-third, dealt with the alleged documents.

The day after Khamenehi announced the existence of the documents, Foreign Ministry spokesman Ramin Mehman-Parast said, “Once the people of the world see these documents, American officials will be left with no reputation.”

And the day after that, the Vice Chairman of the Majlis National Security Committee, Deputy Hossain Ebrahimi, said, “All the world’s terrorists are directly or indirectly related to the Americans.  Once Iran’s documents on US terrorism and the massacre of innocent people are released, the American people will definitely mobilize to topple their government.”

That same day, Jalili spoke to the annual rally at the US embassy.

“I ask what relationship there is between terrorists and the US. The question is why terrorists believe that they are tasked with targeting those countries and individuals who are on the list of sanctions,” he said.

But according to the State Department’s tabulation of terrorist attacks, most do not take place in countries under sanctions.  The tabulation shows that last year, 53 percent of all terrorist attacks that caused at least one death, injury or kidnapping took place in Iraq and Afghanistan.  A terrorist attack is only an attack on civilians, not on US military troops.

Jalili said, “These documents show the US adminis-tration’s paralysis and helplessness.”

He said Iran would summon the Swiss ambassador to Iran, who represents the United States in Tehran, and give her a set of the documents to send to Washington.  He said another set would be presented in New York to UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, who would be asked to distribute copies to all UN member states.  And he said Iran would sue the United Stats for its crimes, though he did not say where the suit would be filed.

The Fars news agency said the materials are not just paper documents but also include “audio and video files and pictures.”  It said the documents refer to US terrorist actions all around the region and not just in Iran.

Majlis Deputy Kazem Jalali said some of the documents prove the United States was directly involved in assassinations even while accusing Iran of involvement in assassinations.  He named no one targeted.  “The release of these documents will take them down from the plaintiff’s stand and force them to stand in the defendant’s dock,” he said.
