Inflation slumps under Rohani

November 08-2013

The official rate of inflation has dropped markedly in each of the first two months since President Rohani took office.

The Central Bank put the inflation rate at 39.0 percent for the 12 months ending in the month of Mordad, when Rohani was inaugurated.

His first full month in office was Shahrivar (August 23-September 22) and the Bank calculated inflation rate for the 12 months ending at the end of that month at 36.0 percent.

Last week, the Statistical Center of Iran put the rate for the 12 months ending in Mehr (September 23-October 22) at 32.3 percent.

That is a drop of 6.7 percentage points since Rohani took office.

The 39.0 percent rate recorded in President Ahmadi-nejad’s last month in office was the highest rate measured in years.
