The rate of inflation dropped slightly last month, but whether this means a return to something like normal will not be known for months more. Twelve months ago the annual rate of inflation was under 10 percent. As of two months ago, it was at a record-breaking 52.1 percent. But in the last Persian month, Khordad, the rate was 50.4 percent, the Statistical Center of Iran announced. This could just be a brief pause. As the chart above shows, the rate fell briefly six months ago before resuming its upward path. The 50.4 percent rate is calculated in comparison with the same month the previous year. The Statistical Center also measures inflation as a 12-month average. That was 37.6 percent last month, up from 34.2 percent the month before that.
