“Two-thirds of India’s debt to Iran has been paid and the balance is being taken care of and there are no problems in this regard,” he said.
Mohsen Qamsari, the director of international affairs for the National Iranian Oil Co. (NIOC), also announced Monday that Iran has resumed shipments of oil to all its Indian purchasers.
Iranian officials in July sent letters to its India buyers threatening to stop shipments in August. When the Indian refiners revealed the letters, many Iranian official denied making any such threats. Later some said oil shipments had been stopped while others said there were no interruptions and still others said some shipments had been stopped because of technical difficulties on the Indian end.
The Indian buyers said the Iranians last month refused to sign any contracts for shipments in August, but have now relented.
India was in arrears by about $5 billion. The payments are being made in euros through a Turkish financial institution, Halkbank.
