Iranian news outlets have reported that UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres (photo) called on the United States to lift its sanctions on Iran, thereby endorsing Iran’s policy. Guterres did indeed say that, but he said more. “I appealed to the US to lift or waive its sanctions outlined in the JCPOA [not all sanctions] and I appeal to Iran to return to full implementation of the JCPOA and to reverse the steps that it has taken since July 2019, which it pledged are reversible.”
