that some Iranian publishers have sent it off to China to be published and it has come back riddled with typos.
The Tehran Times said the Organization for the Holy Qoran had exposed what had happened. “These volumes are printed quite cheaply in China, but are sold for much more in Iran to make a tidy profit,” said Ahmad Haji-Sharif, an official with the organization.
He urged booksellers to halt all further imports from China.
The blame was placed squarely on the Chinese printers. But it wasn’t clear how they were to blame. Books are not sent to another country to be typeset. The text is sent electronically. The foreign printer may handle art and layout, but not the text.
In Iran, Qorans are printed in both the original Arabic and in Farsi translations. Haji-Sharif did not say whether the typos were in the Arabic or Farsi editions.
