IAEA inspector killed in Iran

Iranian state broadcasting reported that Seo Ok-seok of South Korea was killed and a colleague from Slovenia was injured when the car in which they were riding ran off the road and overturned.

State television carried an interview with the Iranian driver from his hospital bed.  He said there was a very large break in the roadbed with the other side being much higher, so much higher that the car could not get over the break and instead lurched off the road and overturned.

The driver said he and the Slovenian where wearing seat belts but that the South Korean “apparently” was not wearing his belt.

Doctors said neither the driver nor the Slovenian was seriously injured.

While there will likely be speculation that the nuclear inspector was targeted, the fact that the Slovenian is not seriously injured will provide an independent witness as to what happened.
