Tehran Councilor Eqbal Shakeri has attributed the Metro crash last week that injured 48 people to human error. A train that was stopped in the Tarasht station was hit from behind by another train. The Automatic Train Protection (ATP) system installed in the Metro is supposed to prevent such collisions. But Shakeri was quoted by the Iranian Students News Agency as saying the driver of the second train turned off the system before entering the station. The report did not say why he turned it off or what disciplinary action will be taken.
