How Iran’s wrestlers performed

Freestyle wrestling has always been Iran’s best sport, but this year Iran’s Greco-Roman wrestlers actually did better than its freestylers, with all but one of the Greco-Roman wrestlers making it into the medal rounds.

Here is the list of Iran’s wrestlers and how they ended up in the Olympics this year.  Each weight division had 16 wrestlers qualified.

The Iranian Olympic team won three gold, two silver and two bronze medals for a total of seven medals, which was far from the record-setting 13 medals the team racked up in 2012  That put Iran 27th in the medals table. Here are this year’s medalists.
