Hostage Developments

February 17, 2023

Maciej Walczak (photo), a Polish professor jailed in Iran last September and accused of spying, was freed in early January and allowed to return home without facing trial.  Earlier, the Austrian press agency said Masud Mossaheb, one of two Austro-Iranian dual nationals arrested in Iran, had been given “indefinite” medical leave.  He was arrested in early 2019 and sentenced to 10 years for spying.  French academic Fariba Adelkhah has also been allowed out of jail but cannot leave Iran.
