Iran again placed eight universities in the latest list of the world’s 1,000 best universities—but all were near the bottom and not a single one appeared in the top 600.
All eight universities did move up rankings this year—with the Isfahan University of Technology advancing by a substantial 70 slots.
The rankings are compiled by the Center for World University Rankings, based in the UAE.
In addition to the overall rankings, CWUR also names the top 10 universities in each of 227 subject areas. Four Iranian universities ranked well there.
In manufacturing engineering, the University of Tehran ranked 10th best in the world.
In materials science-computers Amirkabir University of technology ranked fifth.
And in petroleum engineering, the University of Tehran ranked fourth and the Petroleum University of Technology ranked seventh. The top 10 included four Chinese universities, two US universities, two Canadian universities as well as the two Iranian universities,
