Dr. Ali Hekmati (photo), the father of Amir Hekmati, a former Marine convicted of espionage by Iran and held in prison for five years, has died in Flint, Michigan, at the age of 69. Dr. Hekmati had long been in poor health and it was widely expected he might die while his son was in prison from 2011 to 2016. Dr. Hekmati taught microbiology at Mott Community College in Flint.
