The man was identified as James Eisenhart, 52. He was on a flight from Dubai to Seattle when he had a seizure; the crew landed the plane in Tehran to get medical care.
Eisenhart was only in Tehran for two days and then provided a UAE air ambulance to take him back to Dubai, The National of the United Arab Emirates reported.
The National said Eisen-hart’s wife was flying from the US to join him in Dubai.
It quoted nurses as saying he was recovering well and would soon be able to fly on to Seattle.
Swiss diplomats, who represent the United States in Iran, checked in on him. A US State Department spokeswoman, Beth Gosselin, said, “We understand he is doing well and appreciate the good medical care being provided to him in Iran.”
