But Israeli military spokesman Lt. Col. Avital Leibovich said the rifle appeared to a model Israel has not used since 1974 and thus could not have been seized from an Israeli soldier in 2006. The daily Yediot Ahronot said that model was given to militiamen in Lebanon that Israel backed in the 1980s.
