Oil Minister Bijan Namdar-Zanganeh (photo) has told the Majlis he is reviewing gasoline prices and will make a decision on whether to raise them within days. The pump price has not been changed in more than two years. In the meantime, the rial has lost half its value. As a result, Iran’s gasoline prices are once again among the lowest in the world. One outcome is that Iranian gasoline is smuggled into neighboring countries like Pakistan and Afghanistan at a huge profit. A significant part of Iran’s production goes to support the smugglers.
