The bus was taking Shiite pilgrims to the holy sites in Damascus November 15 when a car tried to force it to stop near Van. The Iranian driver refused to stop and occupants of the car then raked the bus with rifle fire, injuring nine of the 40 passengers. Iran has complained publicly that Turkey isn’t doing enough to locate the attackers. Iran’s relations with Turkey have slid in recent months as the Turks have become ever more critical of the Syrian government while Iran has defended Damascus. It isn’t clear why Tehran chose to make a major case of this latest shooting incident.
