French warden falls in love with Iranian inmate

Goncalves is under investigation for giving her “preferential treatment” in the form of money, telephone calling cards and other “objects forbidden to inmates.”

A 36-year-old prison officer is also under investigation for succumbing to Arbabzadeh’s charms.

Investigators said Gon-calves admitted during questioning to having sexual relations with Arbabzadeh between December 2009 and October 2010 in exchange for favors.  The other man had not had sexual relations with her.

Arbabzadeh came to France with her mother when she was 11 years old.  The mother was escaping a forced marriage in Iran.

Arbabzadeh is in prison for serving as a honey trap in 2009 to lure Ilan Halimi, a 23-year-old French Jew working in Paris, to the suburb of Sceaux.  There, he was kidnaped by members of the Barbarians, who kept him in a cellar over three weeks in 2006.

The gang tortured him and demanded huge sums of money for his release.  The gang’s leader, an African immigrant named Youssouf Fofana, said he targeted Jews because they were all rich.

Halimi was eventually found on the verge of death, handcuffed to a tree, naked and badly burned.  He died from his injuries.  Fofana has been sentenced to a minimum of 22 years in prison.

Elsa Vigoureux, who wrote a book about the crime, said Arbabzadeh was “in a permanent state of war with men and believed that she could only win through using her body.”
