The Foreign Ministry has put out an English-language poster listing what is says are some of the many human rights violations by the United States, despite US claims to being a promoter of human rights adherence.

“The most obvious example of anti-human rights acts of the US government is the targeted assassination of Gen. Qassem Soleymani.  This arbitrary, illegal and murderous act constitutes a violation of many of the principles enshrined in human rights and international law,” the Foreign Ministry said in releasing its poster.

Many would not consider the assassination a human rights violation, but rather an act of terrorism.  The main problem with the Islamic Republic calling it either is that the Islamic Republic has ignored the dozens of its own assassinations of people, both Iranian and foreigners, in the 43 years of its existence.

The poster listed six other violations of human rights violations, including the seizure of Iranian oil shipments, which few would view as a human rights issue but which the Islamic Republic is currently highlighting.

It also listed the Abu Ghraib prison in Iraq where US military personnel tortured Iraqi prisoners.  It called that a US human rights violation, although the practice was uncovered within a few weeks, halted and 10 enlisted men and women people tried and sentence to prison terms.  The point of human rights violations is not that they never occur but that the authorities enforce the law against violators, which the US certainly did in the case of Abu Ghraib.  Iran also did not mention the many notorious instances of torture in Iranian prisons for which jailers are not disciplined.
