The list of 30 Americans under the age of 30 was published this yeara by Forbes for the first time.
Named this year was Mozziyar Etemadi a MD and PhD candidate in bioengineering at the University of California at San Francisco.
“These are the people who aren’t waiting to re-invent the world,” the editors of Forbes said in unveiling the list. They are “making a difference right now.”
Etemadi was recognized for developing a device that detects early labor in women with high-risk pregnancies and then alerts the woman’s physician. Etemadi is also designing pediatric biomedical devices and instruments to enable doctors to monitor patient progress sin their homes.
Etemadi, known as Mozzi, was born in Cleveland, Ohio, to Iranian immigrants, Nasrollah Etemadi and Azardokht Hajiloo. He grew up in the Chicago area, where he began designing websites for local businesses when he was 10.
Etemadi completed his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in electrical engineering at Stanford University in California.
The new Forbes list is one of 12 the magazine compiles in fields ranging from food and art to law and finance.
The science and technology list was compiled with input from three scientists who culled the winners from hundreds of nominations.
