The State University System of Florida has named Iranian-born Mori Hosseini as the new chair of the Board of Governors overseeing 12 universities with more than a third of a million students.
The Florida university system is the second largest public university system in the country; only California’s has more campuses and students.
The 17-member Board of Governors, of which Hosseini is current vice chair, elevated him to chair for the next two years. He will take office in January.
Hosseini, who lives in Daytona Beach, is the CEO of Intervest Construction Inc. (ICI), a company he has owned for three decades and one of the state’s major homebuilders.
Hosseini was born in Iran and educated primarily in London, where he received a degree in aeronautical engineering from the Chelsea College of Aeronautical Engineering.
He then moved to Florida, where he received both a BS in aeronautical studies and an MBA from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University.
