Majid Jamali-Fashi was convicted of crimes in “defiance of God” by using arms against Iran’s Islamic government and spreading “corruption on earth” by damaging public security and order, according to Gholam-Hossain Mohseni-Ejai, the prosecutor general.
Jamali-Fashi was accused of working with Mossad, the Israeli intelligence agency, training in a Mossad course in Israel and receiving money to kill Iranian nuclear scientists. In a confession aired on national TV, Jamali-Fashi admitted to the charges.
Jamali-Fashi was put on trial August 23 and was sentenced August 28. He has 20 days to appeal the sentence.
In January 2010, Tehran University physics professor Masud Ali-Mohammadi was killed in a car bomb explosion outside his home as he was getting ready to go to work. He is believed to have been involved in Iran’s nuclear program.
The conservative website Tabnak reported that Jamali-Fashi was a member of Iran’s national team in the martial art of pankration, which involves boxing and wrestling.
