To try to grow more food for the country, the Islamic Republic has said it will buy up or lease farmland in foreign countries. It has previously said it was working on such deals in Kazakhstan, Ukraine, Azerbaijan and Ghana. This month it added Brazil and Russia to the list. It remains unclear how much land has actually been acquired.
