. . . oh for two
Asghar Farhadi’s new film “The Past” failed to win an Oscar nomination last month and now has failed to win a Golden Globe this month.
The Golden Globe in the foreign film category went Sunday to the Italian film “The Great Beauty.” Farhadi’s film had been nominated for a Golden Globe along with films from France, Denmark and Japan as well as Italy.
The Golden Globes are organized by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association and are generally seen as the top American film award after the Oscars.
“The Great Beauty” is about a party-loving man who takes the occasion of his 65th birthday to look beyond his hedonism at the city of Rome that has merely served as a backdrop for his life so far. Director Paolo Sorrentino said he had not expected to win since the film is very long and very glued to cityscapes. The star is not the 65-year-old, but Rome itself.
