President Obama last week signed an order renewing the state of emergency with regard to Iran that President Clinton declared May 6, 1995, to start sanctions. Under US law, a state of emergency can only last one year, so presidents must constantly re-impose the Jimmy Carter 1979 Iran emergency and the Bill Clinton 1995 emergency.
