Dying villages

July 22, 2016

Iran has been rapidly urbanizing in recent decades as farmers flee remote villages for the big city.  Where the country had about 65,000 villages a half century ago, the number is now down to around 53,000.  And according to the Housing Foundation, 15,000 of those villages, or more than a quarter, hold fewer than 20 households, putting them on the verge of becoming ghost villages.
