Two dual nationals  jailed by the Islamic Republic have been sentenced to more than a decade in prison for opposing the regime.

Mostafa Nili, the attorney for the senior-citizen pair, tweeted August 4 that the sentences were handed down to:

They were each sentenced to 10 years for “participating in the management of an illegal group” plus eight months for “propaganda against the regime,” the lawyer said.  Both were arrested separately last October and have been in jail ever since.

The group or groups they were accused of managing were not identified.  Taghavi is not believed to have been active in any way politically.  Raoof was active with unions.

Nili said three other people, all Iranian nationals without foreign links, were also convicted the same day and given long sentences.
