Hojatoleslam Mahmud Doai (photo) has died at the age of 81. He is best known for being Iran’s first post-revolution ambassador to Iraq, where he ran the effort to topple Saddam Hossein, which help precipitate Saddam’s invasion of Iran. Doai returned to Tehran in 1981, where Ayatollah Khomeini named him managing director of the daily Ettela’at, which he then ran for the next 42 years until his death.
