Iran’s Foreign Ministry, which has vocally condemned the United States for holding talks with the Taliban without the Afghan government having a role, announced March 2 that it will continue to hold talks with the Taliban without the Afghan government having a role. Earlier, the chief of police in Afghanistan’s Uruzgan province accused Iran of supplying the Taliban with shoulder-fired anti-aircraft missiles. The United States has long said Iran provides the Taliban with limited amounts of cash and weapons, enough to cause trouble for US and Afghan troops, but not enough for the Taliban to prevail.
