She said the prison authority should require female defendants to drape themselves in bed sheets or “a piece of cloth with the prison logo.” Deputy Eftekhari said the “sanctity of the chador is blemished” when defendants are seen wearing it in court and that has a “negative impact on society.” She said most defendants don’t believe in the chador to begin with and are being forced to wear it in court. Eftekhari said women in the Majlis also object to actresses playing negative roles while wearing the chador in films. Eftekhari is best known for having said, “The issue of the chador is more important for us than the nuclear issue.”
