A Tehran court has ordered a 64-year-old man arrested during the 2022 protests to be hanged for “insulting the Prophet,” which may be the first time execution has been ordered for that crime. Shahriyar Bayat (photo) was arrested a month after the protests began following the death in custody of Mahsa Amini. So far, nine men have been executed from alleged crimes during the protests, mostly murder of security officers and all involving acts of violence.
