failing to score beyond one lone run while pitcher Yu Darvish gave up six runs.
It was Darvish’s fourth loss against seven wins.
Texas fell 7-1 to the Oakland Athletics.
Darvish also gave up six walks. That gave him the dubious distinction of having given up more walks than any other pitcher in Major League baseball this year. And there are 307 pitchers with at least 20 innings on the mound.
Darvish continued, however, to do well in his specialty, strikeouts, adding another four to his season tab. That made him the 11th best pitcher in terms of strikeouts, a record Texas fans haven’t missed.
Texas has lost seven of its last nine games, with two of those losses with Darvish on the mound. The Rangers just have not showed much offensive punch in the last two weeks. In their four-game series against the Athletics in California, the Rangers batted a combined .182, which is abysmal.
Coach Ron Washington summed up the game with Dar-vish pitching very simply: “It was walks that hurt Darvish. And we didn’t supply enough runs.”
