The message came from the account of Hooman Majd, who is viewed by some in the Iranian-American community as sympathetic to the Islamic Republic.
The tweet referred to Afshin-Jam’s recent marriage to Canadian Defense Minister Peter MacKay and said: “F**king a Canadian minister doesn’t make you Canadian, azizam [my dear]. Come back to papa.”
Asked about the tweet by the Ottawa Citizen, Afshin-Jam said, “This is serious and the language was offensive. But unless I can verify exactly who sent it, I can’t really comment.”
Majd denied authorship. “A recent series of tweets were made in my name as a result of a hack,” he said. “Not my words and tweets have been removed.” He said he didn’t know who the hacker was. “One email account was also got, so I stopped that too.”
The Ottawa Citizen said the original tweet was linked to a report by the Aboriginal Peoples Television Network where Afshin-Jam discussed how she tried to persuade a former chief, Terrence Nelson, to cut the ties he was developing with Iran.
