CUB SEARCH

December 13-2013

leopardThe Animal Welfare League is mounting a search of the country outside Sefidkuh in an effort to find the newborn cubs of a leopard killed Tuesday by an automobile in Sefidkuh, a small city near Khorramabad in Lurestan province.  Shahram Amiri-Sharifi, manager of the provincial Animal Welfare League, said examination of the leopard showed she had given birth very recently, so the league is mounting a search to find the cubs before they die of hunger or are pounced upon when they leave their nest to hunt for food.  He said 11 local residents have already volunteered to set off on the search Wednesday morning.  So far this year, seven of the rare leopards have been killed.
