The morality cops are back on the streets of Tehran looking for clinging clothing and wisps of hair appearing flirtatiously from under headscarves.
The morality police patrols largely disappeared early in May and most Tehranis assumed the regime did not want to do anything to offend potential voters before the June 14 presidential elections.
But the patrols did not re-appear in their usual volume after the elections, prompting much speculation that the regime had concluded enforcement of the dress code had offended many voters and led to the miserable showing of conservative candidates in the balloting.
But the Iranian Students News Agency (ISNA) now reports that the morality officers are back on the streets in large numbers.
ISNA said they have been seen concentrated in the entertainment areas of the city, such as Darband, Tochal, Lavesan, Farahzad and Darekeh.
ISNA said that last Thursday a large number surrounded the Milad Tower to check out those arriving to attend a concert there. It said “a number” of people were arrested for serious dress code violations while others were turned away and told to go home to correct lesser dress code violations.
