A new statue of champion wrestler Gholam-Reza Takhti has caused an uproar among some in Tehran because he is portrayed wearing a tie. The statue was unveiled by the National Olympic Committee. But the Fars news agency, which is aligned with the Pasdaran, promptly led a raucous attack on the cravat and the president of the National Olympic Committee, who was appointed by President Rohani. Takhti died in 1968, long before the revolution, and so often appeared in a tie.
