The national company that distributes gasoline to service stations said that starting next week the stations in Tehran will be selling only “clean gasoline.” The head of the firm, Mostafa Kashkouli, said that currently 70 percent of the gasoline sold in Tehran was “clean.” Unfortunately, he failed to explain what he meant by “clean.” Generally, it was assumed he was saying that 30 percent of the gasoline sold in Tehran now is the ersatz product made in Iran’s petrochemical plants, several of which have been producing poor-quality gasoline the last few years since the US imposed sanctions on foreign companies selling gasoline to Iran.
