In yet another indicator of burgeoning anti-Shia sentiment in much of the Arab world, the Egyptian Ministry of Religious Endowments has issued a warning against “political Shiism” and barred all prayer leaders from traveling to Iran. It warned against “blatant interference” by Iran in Arab countries and Iranian efforts to divide Sunni communities.
