Chicago pair crash at polls

Rahm Emmanuel got all the attention nationally in the Chicago municipal elections, and he cruised to an easy victory over five rivals, pulling down 55 percent of the vote for mayor.

But Chicago was also electing the 50 alderman who comprise the City Council.

Mahmoud Bambouyani, running in the 38th Ward, came in fifth out of eight candidates.  But the two top candidates between them racked up more than two-thirds of the votes, leaving the other six in their dust.  None of the others reached 8 percent and Bambouyani pulled down just 5.8 percent.

Bita Buenrostro, running in the 43rd Ward, ended up sixth of the nine candidates.  Here, too, just two candidates took away  two-thirds of the votes, leaving the others with pittances.  Buenrostro gathered just 3.0 percent of the ballots.
