Iranian state television canceled its planned broadcast of a German soccer game after it learned that the league’s new female referee, Bibiana Steinhaus (above), would be officiating. Steinhaus, 39, is a policewoman by day and became a Bundesliga referee beginning in the 2017-18 season. Her exposed flesh and uncovered blonde hair violate the Iranian dress code. Movie censors cut scenes from foreign films deemed too revealing of women, but state television could not have done anything with a live broadcast of the game.
