Oil Minister Bijan Namdar-Zanganeh (photo) announced September 16 that Iran will soon surpass Qatar in its natural gas production from the shared South Pars gasfield in the Persian Gulf. This is an important milestone for Iran, where many people suspect Qatar has been trying to pump gas swiftly from the shared field so that it can take some of Iran’s share for itself.
