Australians generally have even less patience with illegal aliens than Americans. The focus of attention after the fire is on one Iranian and two stateless Kurds who have planted themselves on the surviving roof of the center and are refusing to eat or to come down. They are demanding to be permitted to stay in Australia, although arson isn’t exactly the best way to influence the Australian authorities. The immigration minister has said criminal charges will be filed against the rioters.
