An Iranian border guard, Major Rasul Talebi, was killed Monday morning in a clash with drug smugglers near the Saravan border crossing on the Iran-Pakistan border. The guards also killed two smugglers and seized about two tons of drugs, the police website said. The clash occurred just two days after Pakistan and Iran agreed to start joint helicopter patrols of the border in an effort to reduce periodic clashes.
