Boeing won’t send planes to Iran; Tehran to sue

June 22, 2018

Boeing will not deliver aircraft to Iran in light of US sanctions, a Boeing spokesman has said. Iran responded by saying it will sue the plane-maker.
The Boeing spokesman said June 6, “We have not delivered any aircraft to Iran, and, given we no longer have a license to sell to Iran at this time, we will not be delivering any aircraft.”
Boeing and Airbus both lost their licenses to sell planes to Iran when President Trump re-imposed US sanctions.
Iran did not say where or under what law it would sue Boeing. It did not say anything about suing Airbus, which has delivered a few planes to Iran but has said it will halt deliveries this fall when the sanctions take full effect.
Iran has failed to make any of the required advance payments to Boeing, so it isn’t clear on what basis it could sue.
Iran did not say where it would sue Boeing or on what legal argument.
Boeing in December 2016 announced an agreement to sell 80 aircraft valued at $16.6 billion to Iran Air. Boeing also announced a contract in April 2017 to sell Iran Aseman Airlines 30 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft for $3 billion, with purchase rights for another 30 aircraft.
