Bobby’s burger

SMsands-2October 10-14

There’s a new burger restaurant in north Tehran.  It’s just a small place.  But it stands out because it is named after Bobby Sands (photo), the operative for the Irish Republican Army (IRA) who was jailed by Britain and went on a hunger strike from which he died in 1981 at the age of 27, making himself something of an icon in the anti-British corners of the world.  The Bobby Sands Burger Bar includes pictures of the convicted terrorist.  Following his death, the Iranian government renamed Winston Churchill Boulevard, which ran past the entrance to the UK embassy, Bobby Sands Street.
