Blogger is newest Evin resident

October 11-13

The Islamic Republic may be pardoning many political activists, but it has just sentenced a blogger to six years in prison.

The doors to Iran’s prisons appear to be revolving, not just opening.

The blogger Mahdi Khazali told The Associated Press his sentence was for spreading “propaganda” against the ruling establishment.

He insists he did not break the law and will appeal to the verdict.

The 48-year-old surgeon and publisher was released in early June after seven months in prison, partly on hunger strike.
