The Islamic Republic’s standard line is that the United States wants to keep occupying Afghanistan so it can bleed away its wealth. A new report from the Pentagon’s special inspector general for Afghanistan reports that in the 13 years since the US invaded Afghanistan it has spent more than $100 billion on reconstruction projects in Afghanistan, many of which have accomplished little of lasting value due to corruption. Who’s bleeding whom?
