As we reported several months ago, Tehran has joined the many cities around the world offering rental bikes to citizens to zip around the city from one bike center to another. Tehran has had a mere 4,000 bikes at its racks. But the program has apparently been well received and the City Council has voted to approve another 10,000 bikes.
Booze rehab planned: The municipality of Tehran has issued a license allowing the first alcohol rehab center to be opened in the city. The authorities have long refused to allow any such centers, seemingly not wanting to admit that there is an alcoholism problem in a country that bans alcohol. Each patient enrolled will undergo treatment for at least 25 days. The Public Health Department said the center is a pilot project and no more rehab sites will be approved until this one has operated long enough to evaluate its impact.
