The White House issued a traditional Now Ruz statement March 20, but this year’s message was purely a traditional holiday greeting with no mention of politics.
President Joe Biden did not copy President Barack Obama’s usual appeal for better relations with Iran.
Biden did say that he had laid out a traditional Haft Seen table in the White House.
Rather than relations with Iran, however, he focused on the coronavirus epidemic and said, “After all our pain and loss, we are reminded that better days lie ahead and that we all must work together to achieve a shared future of greater peace, prosperity and understanding. As we continue to make progress against COVID-19, I hope that soon our virtual celebrations will return to the joy and community we feel gathering together with family and friends.”
