According to the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA), this old fellow has gone without a bath for nearly six decades. Amu Haji is said to be 80 years old and lives in a village in Fars province, where he is presumably rarely welcome indoors. IRNA said his most valuable possession seems to be an elbow pipe. He likes to fill the bowl with dung from livestock and smoke it at his leisure. Amu Haji’s favorite food is the rotten meat of dead animals, especially porcupines. He has a couple of places to live: one is a hole in the ground resembling a grave, which keeps him in touch with reality, and the other is an open brick shack built by those who felt sorry for him. Amu Haji does care about keeping his hair trimmed—but not by going to a barbershop. He keeps it the appropriate length by burning it over a fire.
